Operations at Glasgow Renfrew airport, or as it was originally known, Moorpark Aerodrome, began
as early as 1912. At the time, it was the first municipal airport in Scotland. In the late
1920's and early 1930's, commercial aviation in Scotland grew through companies such as Scottish
Airways, Railway Air Services, Highland Airways, Scottish Motor Traction, Midland and Scottish
Air Ferries and Allied Airways, which provided extensive passenger and mail services throughout
the whole of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

From 1925 to 1933, Renfrew also was a base to the 'weekend flyers' of the Royal Air Force's
602 'City of Glasgow' Auxiliary Squadron. In 1933, 602 Squadron moved to the neighbouring RAF
Abbotsinch field. The squadron would return to Renfrew, albeit temporally, between 1949
and 1954 while RAF Abbotsinch was renovated. 602 squadron, along with the rest of the Royal
Auxiliary Air Force, was disbanded in 1957.

After World War II, Renfrew became Britain's third busiest airport, with over 107,000 passengers
handled in 1948. By 1950, a new terminal building was commissioned by the Ministry for Civil
Aviation. This building was designed by Sir William Hardie Kininmonth, and while built from
reinforced concrete and glass, it was a striking building.

By the late 1950's, Renfrew airport had become too small. With its 2000-yard main runway and
1500-yard secondary one, it was unsuitable for jet operations (at the time, jets and trans-
atlantic traffic were handled by Glasgow-Prestwick airport), and even the new Vanguard aircraft
used by BEA had to operate at limited capacity due to the airport's restrictions. The airport
had become hemmed in by its environments and was frequently subject to strong crosswinds and fog.
By the early 1960's, it was decided to move all airport operations to the neighbouring
RNAS Sanderling/ex-RAF Abbotsinch site, which at the time was a Fleet Air Arm aircraft maintenance
and storage facility. On the 1st of May 1966,all operations at Renfrew ceased, and on the following
day Glasgow Abbotsinch airport was officially opened.

Subsequently, the Renfrew site was redeveloped. The M8 motorway was built roughly where
Renfrew's 8/26 runway once lay, while the spectacular 1954 terminal was demolished in 1978,
to make place for a rather uninspirational Tesco store.

This scenery has been created with Instant Scenery, using library objects, and using Geoff Smith's
Renfrew scenery as a basis.

Airstairs object originally by John MacKay,
simplified for AI use by Tom Gibson. Thanks again!

************* IMPORTANT **********************************

Included in this file are two zipped folders with additional scenery objects:
- vintage cars (in the scenery library folder)
- and Jaap de Baare's general items (in the Static Objects Library folder)

In case you don't have either of those, copy the contents of these folders to your EZ library folder,
or place the bgl and txt file in the addon scenery\scenery folder and place the textures into the addon
scenery\texture folder of FS9.

Other than those, this scenery uses some EZ-Scenery Libraries, which should
be downloaded and installed as described in those packages:

lens_ez_scenery.zip by Len Hickman
peepslib.zip by Geoff Williams
esdg_ramplight_rwy12.zip by Bill Leaming
parking_lots_large_ss.zip by Sydney Schwartz & Lars Hoyer
ez-maint-platforms.zip by Chuck Ford & Steve Ziegler
ezukbld1.zip by Colin Green
ezukbld2.zip by Colin Green
ezukbld3.zip by Colin Green

available from AVSIM, SurClaro, etc.

You need to download and install all Rwy12 Library files in order to get trees and
other important objects.
Again, AVSIM and Flightsim should have these, among many other sites. Make sure yours is up to date.

Set 1: rwy12_lib1_v1.2.zip
Set 2: rwy12_lib2_v1.2.zip
Set 3: rwy12_lib3_v1.2.zip

Typically, all the library BGL files from the files listed above are
copied into the FS2004/Addon Scenery/Static Objects Library/scenery folder,
while the BMP texture files are copied into the
FS2004/Addon Scenery/Static Objects Library/texture folder.
Add this as a Scenery Layer in the Scenery Library as described below,
if you have not done this already.

Suggested Additions:

If you do not have another airport texture addon, I suggest that you
download and install airland1.zip from AVSIM or elsewhere.
It increases frame rates while adding detail to the concrete and asphalt aprons,
taxiways, and runways.

AI propliner traffic matching this scenery is available
separately from www.calclassic.com (AI Aircraft page).
